Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft
Kirr island is the best known saltmarsh grass island in the national park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft. It consists of a sandbar which is covered with peat from a coastal flood mire. The island emerged from the former backwater delta of the Straminke inlet, now silted up. The landscape-forming processes of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft stand out by size in Central Europe.
