"Thank you for sending us your results. They are indeed interesting, and I join our deputy group chairman in the Bundestag, Matthias Miersch, in calling for a social consensus process for agriculture similar to the one that took place when coal was phased out
Furthermore, I am also of the opinion that a socially just and ecologically sustainable agriculture must give greater support to smaller and regional farms, and I would refer you to our agricultural policy spokesperson Maria Noichl for more concrete positions of the European SPD. "

"The agriculture of tomorrow must be committed to true multifunctionality!
The production of tasty, high quality and healthy food, while at the same time providing a fair income for farmers, is ONE goal.
Another is to preserve biodiversity, clean water, pollinators, vital soil, climate and the well-being of farm animals.
Only if we do not approach these two goals as conflicting goals, but rather as a joint task, will the path lead to a good future for agriculture".

"Thank you for your e-mail. First of all, I would like to thank you for your commitment to involving EU citizens in the discussion on the future of agriculture. You and your organisation are thus contributing to the success of a functioning democratic debate on an important issue.
I too am concerned about the changes in nature as a result of climate change and intensive agriculture. At the same time, I am also aware of the difficult financial situation of many small farms and, together with the other members of the SPD in the European Parliament, I am campaigning for a reform of EU agricultural subsidies. In this context, smaller farms and farms that are committed to nature conservation should be strengthened.
It is our position that the agriculture of tomorrow must commit itself to genuine multifunctionality. The production of high-quality, healthy food and a fair income for farmers are one of several objectives. The preservation of biodiversity, clean water, pollinators, vital soil, climate and animal welfare must be central. These two goals must be understood as a joint task and not as conflicting objectives if agriculture is to have a good future. If agricultural enterprises work in this form for the conservation of nature, and thus in the public interest, this work can also be remunerated with public funds. Together, we in the European Parliament will work towards these objectives."
